May Courses

Saturday 1st – Buttons, Buttons, Buttons
Explore different techniques to produce a variety of buttons. Learn how to make your own Leek Buttons in the classic Deaths Head Design, using silk worked over 200mm slightly domed wooden former. These buttons are recorded having been made in the area around Macclesfield from 1574. Knit and crochet over wooden beads or large buttons to produce matching buttons to your garments. Using fine wools and fancy threads produce Dorset buttons using wrapping and weaving.

Saturday 8th – Swiss Darning
For those of you who find Fair Isle and Intarsia work difficult or time consuming learn how to create individual ways to colour up your knitwear. Decorate an existing piece of hand knitting or a knitted square and use this to make a lavender bag or cushion and add knitted and embroidered buttons for extra decoration. This is another workshop by Knitwear Designer Veronica Shaw.

Saturday 15th – Northumberland Guild
See us there with all our supplies at Stocksfield Community Centre.

Saturday 22nd – North Cheshire Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers
See us there with our supplies. We will also be attending another event the same day – Chelford Embroidery Guild at Chelford Village Hall. This is an exhibition day, sale of supplies and taster workshops.

Sunday 23rd – Glue, Cut and Layer
A great way to produce a fractured colour base that can be further embellished by stitching. We will explore the technique using cut paper strips and spray photomount. Then move onto fabric using heatbond to laminate the layers together. Samples can be used for panels for pictures, bags, cushions and greeting cards.

Friday 28th – Over the Rainbow
Our complementary afternoon spinning a hank of wool inspired by the colours of the rainbow. Bring your wheel or drop spindle. 1.30 – 4.30pm – please book.

Saturday 29th – Bakewell Farmers Market
The best place to buy all your local food and craft products.

Sunday 30th – Peak Containers
Produce beautiful landscape vessels using our rare breed hand dyed wools. These vessels and bowls are created by gluing wools onto formers in layers. If further detailing is required then embellish with wool couching and embroidery.
